Travel to the Wine Island in 4 – 5 hours
1st stop Mesaria
We will start our exploration with the Koutsogiannopoulos winery, which is located in Messaria. There we will go to the unique cave wine museum where we will travel back in time to discover the wine production process through wax patterns and representations.
2nd stop of Argyros Estate
We will continue our tour to the Argyros Estate, which was founded in 1903 in a vineyard located in Episkopi Gonia.
In the years 2005 and 2006 it was distinguished by Wine and Spirits magazine as one of the 100 best wineries in the world. Here you will taste the famous wines of the winery, such as Assyrtiko Argyrou, Mavrotragano Argyrou and Vinsanto Argyros.
3rd stop Megalohori
We will finish our journey of winegrowing at the winery of the Venetsanos family in the caldera of Megalohori. This historic winery was built in the 1940s in plans by Georgios Venetsanos, who envisioned an isobaric winery that would save energy at a time when access to electricity and other energy sources was limited. The view of the caldera, combined with the history of the winery and the amazing varieties of wine that you will have the chance to taste accompanied by local products, make the visit there a unique experience.
The trip begins with a stop at the Santorini Caldera, after you meet up with your tour guide. Then, you travel on to Oia, a village in the countryside. This area is famous for inspiring artists through the beautiful architecture, stunning landscape and colorful sunsets.
The city of Imerovigli is next, a town situated up high on a cliff. Here you learn about the history of Skaros, the large rock at the front of the village the townspeople would go to in order to watch out for pirates roaming the sea.
After a short stop to see the Blue Dome Church in Firostefani, you travel up to Prophet Ilias to take in the island vistas as you stand 2,000 feet above sea level. Your guide will take you to a Greek Christian monastery that is situated at the summit before visiting Pyrgos, where you can explore the narrow streets that lead to the old Venetian castle.
You are welcome to visit the excavation and archeological site for an additional 120 euros. Please be aware that this tour lasts 90 minutes.
Don’t want to hire a historical guide? No problem, you can explore the ruins by yourself.
Next, you can soak up the sun at the Red and Black beaches. Depending on the tour time you choose, you can also enjoy lunch overlooking the Aegean Sea (own expense). For a fitting end to the tour, relax at Venetsanos winery where you can learn about the process for making wine and sip on local varieties.
If you are a cruise ship guest, your tour will end at the Fira cable car terminal. Otherwise, your private guide will drop you off at your hotel.
